Juan Antonio Bragulat with the Spanish, Gosser Open (c) AS
Fiesta for Bragulat
6/27/2010 6:03:20 PM

Juan Antonio Bragulat claimed his second title of the season. After Frenchman Alan Bihan and Italian Matteo Delpodio, Spaniard Bragulat is the third player this year to win twice. His margin this morning was only one stroke but his closest challengers can not scored better than level. He played 68 to win the Open de la Mirabelle d'Or 4 clear at Metz, France.

Scot Raymond Russell finished his round square with Mirabelle d'Or golf course to tie 4th place. Young French Amateur Clément Sordet signed for a disappointing 74 and finished 7th tie.

At second place tie, 4 strokes behind the lead, Englishman Sam Robinson and Frenchman Laurent Poncelet. Poncelet did sign the best score of the day, 64. The 32 year old player has been playing as professional for only 9 months. He used to have “normal job” in logistic and golf event. Last year, he decided to change his life with his family, friends and wife support. This first great result is a great gift for Laurent “Lolo” Poncelet.

Spaniard Juan Antonio Bragulat maintained pressure on field in France. After two perfect cards without any dropped shot, he scored 67 today, -5 with one double bogey on third hole par 3 and 7 birdies.

The course did resist better today to players assault. Despite a great 64 signed by Carlos Balmaseda, no record registered during third round. At second place tie, one stroke back of lead, Scot Raymond Russell and French amateur Clément Sordet. Nunzio Lombardi, famous name since a couple of weeks as he won Open d'Ile de France, shares 4th place with Englishman Sam Robinson.

As last week, many players on top of leaderboard already shown their talent this year. No less than 5 winners in the top 10 to tee off last day in Metz.

Spaniard Juan Bragulat took first place at Open de la Mirabelle d'or in France after scoring 66 for -12 total. Bragulat shown again his good form. He was in the race for winning last week in Normandy after two rounds but finished at 10th position. Obviously he wants to do better this week.

Yesterday's leader Italian Marco Crespi played during afternoon session and hole after hole came back on the top of the leaderboard. But he failed keeping good swing rhythm and shot 68 to be 2nd tie with Raymond Russel one stroke back.

Scot Raymond Russel did the best performance today. He played incredible way and holed 11 birdies without doing any mistake. He signed for 61 and just missed by one to equalize course record.

A group of 4 players are 4th tie 2 shots behind the lead : Slovenian Gregor Slabe and three Frenchmen, Matthieu Bey, Michael Hill and amateur Clément Sordet.

Julien Xanthopoulos (c) AS
Xanthopoulos wins in France
9/20/2009 4:17:54 PM

Julien Xanthopoulos won the Open International de la Mirabelle d'or in France with a total of -21, with 3 strokes margin ahead of his fellow challenger, Emilien Chamaulte and of two other players, Raymond Russel and leader of AlpsTour, Andrea Perrino.

The match was really between these two players. On the front 9 nines, the two competitors were square. 3 birdies both side and still one shot late for Chamaulte teeing off the 10th hole. Then, Chamaulte had to attck but unfortunatly started to do some mistakes. He dropped two shots in a raw on the 10th and 11th hole. Julien Xanthopoulos stayed consistent and holed par after par. Chaumaulte tried to regain these missing strokes but failed. Xanthopoulos holed a birdy on the 16th and the story was nearly ended.

The 18th hole is a good finishing one. Yesterday Chamaulte holed an eagle against a birdy for Xantho. But Xantho never left the 18th green without a birdy holed... But pressure was heavy on Chamaulte's shoulders. He dropped another shot there and Xantho played a safe par to get his second victory of the season. After this win, he is again in top 5 of the Order of Merit.

Xanthopoulos on the road to success
9/19/2009 7:08:10 PM

A foggy day in Metz town... This morning, first group was ready to start but the fog was dense so the game had to be delayed for 2 hours. It seems that this break was a good breath for many players. The scores today were incredibly low and Emilien Chamaulte shot 62, -10 the lowest card he ever signed.

Very brilliant game too for 3 players, including 2 amateurs who shot 64, -8. One of them, frenchman Johan Lopez-Lazaro, jumped to the 3rd place and could be the surprise tomorrow afternoon. Another french great amateur has won in 2005, the actual european tour player, Michael Lorenzo-Vera.

But the leader were still very strong. The first nine holes were so and so. Nothing very exciting. Chamaulte were then leading. But Julien Xanthopoulos shown determination and finally earned 2 strokes on the last 2 holes for taking back his first position. He will tee off the last round with one stroke advantage. Low margin reference to the « rain » of birdies on course today...

Xantho confirms his leadership
9/18/2009 5:57:04 PM

Frenchman Julien Xanthopoulos, 26 years old, continued to lead the Open International de la Mirabelle d'or. He shot 68 and holed a little less putts than during the first round but it was good enough to get a 2 strokes advantage, -13 in total.

Leader at the club house at the middle of the day, Swiss Martin Rominger finished finally second after a solid 66. Another frenchman, Clement Gallois completed the podium one stroke back, a good result that he can celebrate -with moderation- for his birthday. The young player is 26 today.

The cut is fixed at +2 including 11 amateurs.

Big break for Xanthopoulos
9/17/2009 6:33:35 PM

Frenchman Julien Xanthopoulos took 3 strokes advantage ahead of fellow country Alan Bihan. He shot a wonderful 63, -9. He holed 10 birdies and dropped only on shot on the 12th. His statistics are incredible. He made birdy on all the par 5 of the course and his average score on par 4 is 3,6.

"Xantho" is one of the best player on the Alps Tour this season. He had one victory in june in France and since last week is ranked at the 6th position of the order of merit. He needs a good result to enter the top 5 again.

The projected cut is +1.

First Win for Mandonnet
9/7/2008 4:29:29 PM

The key of the tournament today was the last hole. Three players, Philip Rowe, Pierre Relecom and Alexandre Mandonnet cought their place in the play off by birdied the 18th. Mandonnet had to hole the 17th too...

The tremedous story went on the last green again during the first extra hole. Mandonnet was the only one to find the faiway and hit the green in two. Far from the pin, 12 meters. His competitors were closer for a birdy, 6 meters for belgium man and a little more than 1 for the englishman.

Rookie Alexandre Mandonnet broke the suspens quickly holing the putt for eagle and catching his first trophy.

Pierre Relecom
Relecom as a dream
9/5/2008 7:28:39 PM

Turned pro two months ago, Pierre Relecom can be proud of him. He shot 60 today, 12 under par, with strange feelings all day :
"First I shot 7 under at front 9, my previous record was 6 so I started the back nine a bit nervous. Then I birdied 10, 11 an 13 son the pressure of good score disapeared and I kept on thinking about 59... I was really near the hole on 18th for eagle but I missed it..."
The 23 years old, son of the president of Royal Belgium federation, has still half way to get his first trophy.

Cut fixed at -1.
